Did you read the specifications and study the drawings?
Are the materials what is specified?
Are the masonry units the right size, color, and texture?
Check this against the approved sample/
Is the mortar as specified?
Are certifications on the masonry available?
Do you have the approved sample panel?
At the start of the masonry work, inspect the proper layout and horizontal coursing.
Layout procedure. Did they conform to the sample panel?
Are the joints properly tooled?
Is the mortar type correct? Check the specifications/
Type M- Below grade application in contact with earth.
Type S-- general Use, severe exposures (1800 psi)
Type N-- general use, severe exposures(750psi)
Type O-- interior Use(350psi)
Type PL & PM are masonry grouts (2500 psi)
Has the good face of the masonry been designated?
Masonry units must be cut with a masonry saw.
Is the masonry cleaned without acid and with brushes?
Verify mortar color is provided and approved if required.
Confirm the joint size, type, tooling method, and equipment are understood and produced.
Confirm methods of cleaning are understood and performed as required. Ensure droppings and splatter on finish surfaces are cleaned as soon as possible.
Verify anchors and ties are if the type of material and size required.
Verify reinforcement is of type, size, splicing, and spacing required that it is properly doweled, tied, and installed. Confirm addition reinforcement is provided for corners, intersections, openings, and lintels. Refer also to 03200 Concrete reinforcement.
Verify expansion joints for concrete masonry are located and provided as indicated or required.
Verify that weep holes are provided if required.
Verify pipes, conduits, sleeves, and boxes are located, secured, protected, insulated, and spaced as required.
Verify hollow metal frames are filled solid.
Confirm pointing, replacement of defective units, and repair of other deflects are promptly performed and as deemed necessary.
Verify waterproofing of walls is performed if required. Verify moisture content prior ro waterproofing is as required or specified.
Confirm methods of final cleaning are as required.
