Beyond the Studs: Mastering Metal Framing Quality Control

Metal Stud Framing 



1. Are the metal studs the correct gauge? Check the drawings.

2 Are the metal studs the correct size?

3. Are the metal studs and drywall stored in a dry place?

4. Verify that the door jambs are double-studded. 



5. Verify that the correct metal stud size and gauge are used on the exterior wall. (16 gauge, 6" or 8")



6. Verify that the bottom plate is securely fastened to the floor and anchored with the correct fasterers. 

7. Verify that the metal studs are plumb.


8. Verify if control joints are to be installed in the wall. Check the wall length with the code.

9. Verify the location of nailing strips and blocking. 



10. Verify that all the studs are 16" on center or per the drawings. 

11. Verify that the bracing is installed, if necessary, per the drawings.
