Wall Assembly




This wall assembly's Sound Transmission Class (STC) would be around 35-45.
The client stated that the units would have hair dryers and people talking loudly.
The decibels for a hair dryer is between 70 and 90 decibels. 
Loud taking would be between 60 and 70 decibels. 
The decibels transmitting through the wall assembly would be 55 on the high side. The sound similar to 55 decibels would be a normal conversation between two people.
So the client asked for an alternate wall assembly to reduce the sound.

Proposed Wall Assembly

We proposed a wall assembly that includes one layer of 5/8" GOLD BOND SOUNDBREAK XP on each side of the metal studs and resilient channels with 3-inch insulation. This STC rating is between 55 and 60.

This assembly would then add 30 points to the original STC rating. 
And the decibels would then be 30 through the wall assembly.
30 Decibels would be a whisper at 5 feet. 

Rockwool insulation would add further sound absorption than the standard 3-inch fiberglass insulation. Rockwool is made from mineral wool and is denser. It adds about 10 points to the STC rating. 



Seal the wall board's bottom and top with a Green Glue Sealant. 

Cover the electrical outlets in the walls with Quiet Putty.

The enhanced wall assembly should provide a much quieter environment suitable for a beauty salon with individual rooms.

The Design-Build Method is an alternative in the building of your project.  In the Design-Build method, you will start an immediate collaboration with your Design-Build consultant (DBC) The Pre-Construction activities are the first part of the Design-Build Method. The pre-construction phase starts with a Preliminary drawing or sketch that can be generated by the Design-Build consultant or the Owner. Notices of Nonperformance to a Trade Contractor on a construction project

  Bridgewater College Dormitory Project Let me give you an example of an underperforming contractor from one of my past projects. I was involved in the building a $2.7 million Bridgewater Dormitory on the Campus of Bridgewater University in Bridgewater, Virginia. The Structure is 3 stories with a basement. Bridgewater Dormitory Liquidated Damage Project This was a liquidated damage clause project. The project had to be completed before the school year started in late August. Liquidated Damages clause means that if we go over the allotted time for the project then we would be charged a specific amount for each day that we were over the time limit. So,  the overall schedule of this project was very critical to the completion of the project. The critical path of this project was the construction of the exterior masonry work which included the brick and the Capstone on the top of the building. Every Trade Contractor is tied to the overall schedule of the project and the completion date.
